Summer 2008 Internships
At the advanced undergraduate and graduate level
The AM&H seeks students at the junior, senior or graduate level to
apply for various internships for the summer of 2008. Qualified sophomores with
adequate coursework, experience and recommendations may be considered as
well.
All summer internships run from June 1 – August 15, 2008; work hours are flexible.
Application forms must be received by February 29, 2008. Candidates will be contacted for
interviews on or before March 7, 2008. Interviews will be held the week of
March 17, 2008.

1. Geology

General Description: The AM&H seeks one to two graduate
level students with extensive knowledge of geology to identify, catalog,
photograph and devise a storage system for the Adams Museum’s
substantial geology collection. Students must be able to work independently.
Knowledge and/or experience with Black Hills geology a plus.

2. Historic Gardens

General Description: The AM&H seeks one to three
students to complete various projects at the Historic Adams House Victorian
gardens. These projects could include planting, transplanting and general care
of the gardens, creating a garden tour for the public, creating a garden
brochure and completing labels for all plants.

3. Historic Adams
House collections

General Description: The AM&H seeks one student to
process significant portions of the collections at the Historic Adams House.
Projects will include cataloguing, object photography, exhibit design, research
and storage.

4. Heritage Tourism: Create tours for the Adams Museum

General Description:
The AM&H seeks one student to create docent-lead and self-guided
tours of the Adams Museum. Tours will draw on the history of Deadwood and the surrounding Black Hills to guide
visitors through exhibits at the Adams Museum. Exhibit areas include: Building a City,
Legends of Deadwood, W.E. Adams’ Cabinet of Curiosities, Ethnic Deadwood and On the Move: The Roads & Rails of
Deadwood.
